Adventures Of Shark Boy And Lava Girl, The (3D And 2D) Region 2 DVD

Adventures Of Shark Boy And Lava Girl, The (3D And 2D) Region 2 DVD

Robert Rodriguez (SPY KIDS, DESPERADO) directed this hyperkinetic kids' film based on a script by his pre-teen son, Racer. The plot concerns a daydreaming youngster named Max (Cayden Boyd) whose fantasy stories about the titular superheroes the molten-hot Lava Girl (Taylor Dooley), and a boy raised by sharks appropriately named Shark Boy (Taylor Lautner) inspire the ridicule of everyone from the local bullies to his own mom (Kristin Davis). Even Max's fourth grade teacher (George Lopez) wants him to come down to earth, but then a tornado brings Shark Boy and Lava Girl into the school to whisk Max off to the planet Drool, where only his dreaming skills can save the day. A real kid's active imagination is obviously at work here, because the giddy action flies in all directions with a cheerful disregard for conventions of logic or sanity, and Rodriguez is obviously the right sort of adult to bring such a film to life (he must be a great dad). The message about the importance of not just believing in your dreams but working to achieve them should prove relevant for an audience who may be spending a bit too much time in front of the TV or computer game. The cool 3-D effects are something else, with goo and fists and lunging Shark Boy regularly leaping off of the screen. But even without the 3-D amplification, viewers will be dazzled by the film's wild, day-glo colour scheme. Dive to Shark Volcano DVD

Dive to Shark Volcano DVD

From cinematographer Mike DeGruy and the team behind Blue Planet comes a rare look at the oceans' hidden treasure trove of exotic sharks – underwater volcanoes. In the eastern Pacific, encounter hundreds of sharks as divers explore two underwater volcanoes that have become magnets for a wealth of marine life. Both rise from the depths of the Abyssal Plain, forcing cold, nutrient-rich waters towards the surface. These waters provide the base of a feeding chain that ends in the mouths of the ocean's top predators. At Cocos Island, a young volcanic seamount breaks the skin of the Pacific, drawing an array of sharks and other predators to this oasis in the desert of the open ocean. Dubbed "Shark Island" by the few who have dived here, its pristine waters are a haven for sharks, where hundreds of fins ripple the waters. Giant shoals of Hammerhead sharks gather in shallow water, resting after a night among the rocks below or feeding on squid rising from the deep. Watch as porpoises, giant mantas and even the occasional whale shark swim by. In the blue water, schools of silky white-tip reef sharks gather, cruising or resting by day and hunting among every volcanic crevice by night. By daylight, presenter Mike de Gruy explores the surface waters, wearing a special helmet that allows him to transmit a running commentary as he descends through huge schools of big eye jacks and Creole fish. See spawning aggregations of black triggerfish and striped Surgeonfish; cleaning stations with Barber fish and Goatfish; and underwater caverns filled with thousands of other species – each a potential snack for the schooling sharks.

Animal Face-Off: Hippo Vs. Bull Shark DVD

Animal Face-Off pits nature's strongest, fiercest and deadliest warriors against each other in battle to determine who rules the animal kingdom. Zoological experts create biomechanical replicas of each creature in the "Bite Lab," measuring every strength and weakness. Then, the data is uploaded to a simulated battlefield, where the claws come out and the virtual fur starts flying as each wild warrior stakes its claim to the title of King of the Beasts. Hippopotamus Vs. Bull SharkWith teeth more than a foot long and a temper shorter than an African snowstorm, the hippopotamus is a fierce – and feared – warrior on the banks of the Zambesi River. But, when a hungry bull shark ventures upriver and hones in on a hippo as a potential meal, the stage is set for an epic battle. Hippo expert Dr. Ellen Rogers helps the build team accurately recreate the size and crushing power of the hippo's tremendous mouth, while shark biologist Dan Huber consults on his undersized contender – though extremely aggressive, bull sharks weigh only about 1/10th as much as hippos. It's David versus Goliath all over again when these two meet in the virtual ring.

Jaws of the Pacific DVD

Jaws of the Pacific DVD

The great white shark, once thought to prefer only coastal waters, is now believed to make trans-oceanic crossings. Analyzing data collected from satellite transmitters attached to a group of sharks, researchers have discovered that the great white makes incredible long-distance migrations across the Pacific – traveling up to 43 miles a day.Join a team of scientists as they set out to track these killers in the hope of answering one question: Just where are these sharks going? Begin in the great white's hunting grounds off the coast of northern California – here, sharks gorge themselves on seals and sea lions with regularity. From there, they plunge into the ocean – reaching depths of up to 2,000 feet – only to resurface again in the coastal waters of Mexico, where the predator has a notorious legacy as a man-eater. But, the sharks' journey is far from over – after an epic trek across thousands of miles of turbulent ocean, they finally settle in the calm, warm waters of Hawaii. Satellite data reveals the islands to be a pit stop for the long-ranging sharks. Could this be the hidden location of their much sought after birthing and mating grounds? Historical experts reveal evidence of the sharks' presence through the ages in the artifacts of ancient islanders, while modern researchers posit theories for the creatures' Hawaiian vacation – they may be attracted by abundant schools of tuna, spinner dolphins, humpback whales and even the rare Hawaiian monk seal. Marvel as modern technology uncovers one of the deepest secrets of this impressive creature and brings you closer than ever to the sea's most feared predator.
