This summer Nike Golf will once again travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to participate as title sponsor and golf equipment partner of The 2003 National Father & Son Team Classic, the largest three-day father and son golf competition in the world.

The Alumni & Fans Golf Association, a nationwide membership organization, has been formed with its office located in Orlando, Florida. The Alumni & Fans Golf Association (AFGA) has as its goals to enhance the spirit and camaraderie of collegiate fans across the U.S. through golf and to raise scholarship funds for colleges and universities.

"The Alumni & Fans Golf Association combines two of my greatest passions: my love of golf and my dedication to my alma mater," said Steve Melnyk, ABC golf analyst and AFGA spokesperson. The AFGA will host The Alumni & Fans Golf Classic annually, a nationwide amateur event in which AFGA members will compete in qualifying events beginning in April around the U.S. in both gross and net divisions. Golfers will name the college or university of their choice and play in two-person teams for their schools, competing for the chance to play in the national championship in Orlando, and for the chance to provide scholarship funds in their names to their chosen schools.

To kick off its inaugural season, the AFGA presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to the Orange Bowl Foundation at the 2003 FedEx Orange Bowl game, to be used for scholarship funds.

Over the past ten years, Michigan golf courses emerged to the top in the eyes of national golf publications. This type of attention has helped make Michigan one of the top golf destinations in the country. This year is no different, since Golf Digest has now honored two more Michigan courses.

Tullymore Golf Club, in Stanwood, Michigan, was awarded the "Best New Upscale Public Course" in the country. The Grande Golf Club in Jackson, Michigan, was selected 6th on its list of "Best New Affordable Courses."

Golf Digest relied on its nationwide panel of more than 700 low-handicap male and female golfers to play nominated courses and score them on shot values, design variety, memorability, aesthetics, playability (for public courses) and resistance to scoring (for private and Canadian ones). The scores are averaged and totaled, and after bonus points are added for walkability, the highest totals win.

Jim Engh, who has award-winning courses with national and international appeal, served as the architect of Tullymore Golf Club.

Tullymore, which is part of the popular St. Ives Resort, winds through a vast area of wetlands that bring out the beauty and artistic design that Jim Engh is known for.
