The new 48-page 2003 Golf Guide is now available free from the Sandhills Golf Association to help players plan golf vacations and outings. The guide features detailed data on 18 member golf courses designed by such leading architects as Davis Love III, Arnold Palmer, Rees Jones, Mike Strantz, Dan Maples and Willard Byrd. Golfers will also find information on hotels and golf packages. To commemorate the association's tenth anniversary, a free round of golf for a foursome will be given away each week during 2003 to individuals who register using a form included in the guidebook.

"The Sandhills area of North Carolina is blessed with a great climate that provides year-round playing opportunities," says Mike Floyd, executive director of the Sandhills Golf Association. "When you combine ideal weather with outstanding golf courses and southern hospitality, you create one of the country's favorite golf destinations."

In fact, Golf Digest ranked the Sandhills area as one of the "Top three Greatest Golf Destinations In The World," along with St. Andrews and California's Monterey Peninsula, and as the "Number One Golf Destination on the East Coast." A panel of the magazine's readers also cited the area as having the "World's Best Quality of Golf."

One of the Sandhills Golf Association's specialties is helping golfers plan and book custom vacations quickly and easily. Golfers can submit an online request at, and receive a detailed quote within 24 hours. Assistance is also available by calling toll-free 888/926-GOLF. Packages include accommodations, guaranteed tee times with carts and complimentary breakfasts. The area is easily accessible by air into Charlotte, Greensboro or Raleigh, and is within a day's drive of virtually the entire eastern United States.

"Spring is a beautiful time to visit the Sandhills, especially April and May when many parts of the country are still experiencing winter weather that rules out golf," Floyd points out. "Here you'll find everything in full bloom and the golf courses in excellent condition."

PerryGolf has also announce their Special Air Services, available on golf itineraries in the British Isles. These Special Air Services utilize private aircraft and helicopter transportation to effectively combine with their fleet of VIP Golf Coaches in maximizing valuable time and especially when visiting courses not otherwise easily accessible.

The helicopters and private aircraft may be used continuously throughout a schedule but recommended for use on a selective basis. On what would normally be a traveling day across the country or to Ireland, it is possible to leave your hotel in the morning, effortlessly play a championship course en route or at a remote location, and be at your next hotel by dinner, where your VIP coach will be waiting.

Golf on the Legendary Royal Troon.
Similarly there are parts of Ireland and Scotland where the terrain and roads are such that the use of a helicopter for one day may allow you to play 36 holes of championship golf at remote locations such as Machrihanish or Ballyliffin, visit another country within the British Isles for a round, or play Turnberry on the west coast of Scotland and Kingsbarns Golf Links on the east coast, and still be back in time for a relaxing evening and dinner.

"In our view it is not a simple air charter from Point A to Point B," commented Gordon Dalgleish, President of PerryGolf. "As with all the programs and services we deliver, we like to make sure your experience is as seamless as possible, that your day is special and memorable for a lifetime, and we will work with the helicopter or aircraft operator to make sure all of the little details are attended to, allowing you to focus on your golf and leave you worry free."

PerryGolf works closely with PDG Helicopters in Scotland and Links Helicopters in Ireland, each recognized for their high degree of professionalism and indepth knowledge of helicopter operations in these countries. Both operate modern equipment, all with forward facing seats, affording you an outstanding view as you witness the spectacular scenery.

For longer journeys a Jetstream 31 turboprop aircraft is recommended, provided in a VIP eight-passenger configuration (a Jetstream 31 normally accommodates 19 passenger). It is the perfect aircraft for around the British Isles, and is ideal to use on a traveling day if you are combining Ireland and Scotland, ensuring your travel time is minimized.

PerryGolf's VIP Golf Coaches offer
the tops in luxury golf vacations
in Spain, Portugal, and UK.

PerryGolf has also announced that they will be adding a 10th VIP Golf Coach to their fleet in the British Isles effective June 1, and will have a new VIP Golf Coach permanently positioned by September in Spain and Portugal.

The PerryGolf VIP Golf Coach, first introduced in 1998, sets the standard for small group transportation. They have taken a Mercedes motorcoach chassis which would normally accommodate fully 20 passengers, and created a luxurious atmosphere for just 8 golfers. It begins with spacious leather armchairs, each with its own armrests and facing a table. To complement the restful decor you can play music if you wish (radio, tape and 10 stack CD autochanger) or run a video. The vehicles are fully air-conditioned, and a "cool box" is stocked with cold drinks for your consumption.

A personal Concierge Driver will be with you throughout your stay. In addition to driving you safely, he will take care of your golf equipment, assist you on arrival at hotels and golf courses, make dinner reservations and sightseeing suggestions, and generally make your stay as worry free as possible.

Your clubs are also well taken care of, with a rear luggage compartment having been specifically designed for easy access to luggage and golf clubs. For the enjoyment of all guests, these vehicles -- like all in our coach fleet -- are nonsmoking vehicles.

This summer Nike Golf will once again travel to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to participate as title sponsor and golf equipment partner of The 2003 National Father & Son Team Classic, the largest three-day father and son golf competition in the world.

Entering its sixth year, the upcoming golf tournament is scheduled for July 24-26, 2003. Classic organizers expect 1,500 golfing families to participate in this year's event. The 2002 event drew more than 1,300 players from 46 states and 6 countries.

"The Classic was a tremendous success for Nike Golf last year particularly as are continuing to grow and introduce the Nike Golf brand and products to more people who love the game," said Jeff Lienhart, Southern Regional Sales Manager for Nike Golf. "The Myrtle Beach golf community makes this a first-class event which is no surprise they are expecting even more players this year.

Each year, Myrtle Beach hosts the Classic, largest father and son golf competition in the world. Played on Myrtle Beach's most-requested golf courses, the championship is a 54-hole event offering a different format each day.

Four new premier golf courses will be added to this year's event. Barefoot Resort's Davis Love Course, Shaftsbury Glen Golf & Fish Club, Tidewater Golf Club and The TPC of Myrtle Beach will be new host sites and part of the15-course rotation in 2003.

"Our thanks go out to Nike Golf for its commitment to this family event and Myrtle Beach, and its dedication to the game of golf," said Robert Harper, Director of Golf Operations for Burroughs & Chapin Company. "Father & Son Week has become a celebration of both golf and family with the generational passing of the game."

The Alumni & Fans Golf Association, a nationwide membership organization, has been formed with its office located in Orlando, Florida. The Alumni & Fans Golf Association (AFGA) has as its goals to enhance the spirit and camaraderie of collegiate fans across the U.S. through golf and to raise scholarship funds for colleges and universities.

"The Alumni & Fans Golf Association combines two of my greatest passions: my love of golf and my dedication to my alma mater," said Steve Melnyk, ABC golf analyst and AFGA spokesperson. The AFGA will host The Alumni & Fans Golf Classic annually, a nationwide amateur event in which AFGA members will compete in qualifying events beginning in April around the U.S. in both gross and net divisions. Golfers will name the college or university of their choice and play in two-person teams for their schools, competing for the chance to play in the national championship in Orlando, and for the chance to provide scholarship funds in their names to their chosen schools.

To kick off its inaugural season, the AFGA presented a check in the amount of $10,000 to the Orange Bowl Foundation at the 2003 FedEx Orange Bowl game, to be used for scholarship funds.

Charter membership in the AFGA is free, and includes the right to compete in AFGA tournaments and the chance to win a golf trip for four to Ireland. For further information see, or call 800/655-AFGA (2342) or, in Orlando, 407/248-2800.

Over the past ten years, Michigan golf courses emerged to the top in the eyes of national golf publications. This type of attention has helped make Michigan one of the top golf destinations in the country. This year is no different, since Golf Digest has now honored two more Michigan courses.

Tullymore Golf Club, in Stanwood, Michigan, was awarded the "Best New Upscale Public Course" in the country. The Grande Golf Club in Jackson, Michigan, was selected 6th on its list of "Best New Affordable Courses."

Duffer DVDsGolf Digest relied on its nationwide panel of more than 700 low-handicap male and female golfers to play nominated courses and score them on shot values, design variety, memorability, aesthetics, playability (for public courses) and resistance to scoring (for private and Canadian ones). The scores are averaged and totaled, and after bonus points are added for walkability, the highest totals win.

Jim Engh, who has award-winning courses with national and international appeal, served as the architect of Tullymore Golf Club.

Tullymore, which is part of the popular St. Ives Resort, winds through a vast area of wetlands that bring out the beauty and artistic design that Jim Engh is known for. His creations are formed with long flowing rhythmic mounds. One of the strongest features of the course is the unique mogul-shaped bunkers he created.

Air and Hotel PackagesEngh's strategic use of the beautiful wetlands that dot the property has enhanced the flow of the course. In the span of four holes on the front nine, golfers play three breathtaking par-3's. The 16th and 18th holes are two of the best par 5's anywhere. They are cuddled against ponds and wetlands. The finishing hole is spectacular as golfers try to avoid watery dismay off of the tee and along the left side of the entire hole.

The name Tullymore was inspired by a village in Ireland, and the course inspires great golf. It features generous movements of the fairways with clearly visible approaches, and has five sets of tees for golfers of all levels to enjoy.

"This puts Tullymore in an elite class on a national level. This also elevates our resort to a new level with two World Class Golf courses that have both been nationally recognized," said Kevin O'Brian- Director of Golf for St. Ives Resort.

Tullymore Golf Club, combined with the St. Ives Course and the new Inn at St. Ives, is now one of the top golf resort destinations in Michigan.

The Grande Golf Club in Jackson was selected 6th on the list of "Best New Affordable Courses," and is a welcome addition to a town known for having one of America's highest numbers of golfers per-capita.

The Grande Golf Club was designed by Plymouth, Michigan-based Raymond Hearn. The Grande covers more than 400 acres with elevation changes that span 100 feet. Grassy meadows, lakes, wetlands, pine forests, and maple-and-oak forest, not to mention a number of imposing rock outcroppings make The Grande a grand collection of risk-reward holes

"The land was unique in terms of its diversity. My design fit the land like a glove," said Hearn. "The feedback thus far is that the Grande GC is a great test of golf for the low-handicap golfer yet enjoyable for the less-skilled, and everyone can enjoy the beautiful surroundings. This was our design intent from the onset."
