Frank Lloyd Wright's Last Dream Hotel — It must be a summer of historical stays at luxurious and celebrated hotels. The Arizona Biltmore is one of the classic structures designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, who had a home in Phoeniz, called Talliesen West, not far from the AB. Talliesen means "House On The Brow (hill)" in Welsh, and from his home Wright created masterpieces that still endure - such as the Arizona Biltmore.

Step Back to the Old West at Durango's Strater - There is only one place to stay in Durango , the town's grandest living icon — the Strater. Just keep in mind that you may never be satisfied with any other hotel after staying here. The Strater has been hailed down the ages as Durango 's "home away from home". I am willing to give up my home and live here . . .!

Florida Beach Resorts at

Tampa Tennis Tuneup - If you’re ready to spend all day on the courts exposed to demanding drills, best bet might be Saddlebrook Resort, where the fitness principles of Harry Hopman, former Australian Davis Cup captain, remain the basis of a rigorous program.

Epic Elegance in Miami - No problem picking the hotel.  I book us into the Epic, a new Kimpton property in downtown Miami.  Nestled among skyscrapers with fabulous views of the harbor, the Epic appears to be fast earning a rep as one of the glamor spots in town.

Changes in Latitudes, Atitudes at Hollywood Beach Marriott -
Hollywood has produced many unique, campy, and fun beach movies during the past century of celluloid, but no beach movie matches Hollywood Beach – not the tinsel town Hollywood, but Hollywood, Florida.

Where The Boy's Aren't - Fort Lauderdale Sheds Its Spring Break Skin — Back in the 1960s the beach flicks starring Frankie Avalon (who still tours on a regular basis and now has his own ski lotion company) and Annette Funicello were making waves in "Where The Boys Are", shot in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Since those days the spring break party has moved on to other exotic locales, but now Fort Lauderdale shows its genteel side on the Atlantic Ocean

Oasis In Orlando - The Peabody -
Picture an oasis. You have seen the movies. A handsome stranger rides through the harsh dust storm carrying a beautiful maiden.  Winds howl like fiends and before the death knell the riders crest a hill and there it is.  Palm trees sway in the wind around the shimmering water.

Hawaii Beach Resorts at

Hawaii Beach Resort Features -

Windy City Westins - The Westin O'Hare is the only four-star, four-diamond hotel that is just five minutes (and a complimentary shuttle ride) from O'Hare. The hotel is ideal for corporate meetings, special events, and social occasions because you don’t have to go into the city, just have the executives fly in from all points of the world, and confer in comfort on the VIP floor. Plus, two other Chicago Westins.

Branson's New Hits, The Hiltons - the globally-known Hilton family, recognized for its full-service hospitality and world class sophistication. Her name is the Hilton Branson Convention Center Hotel and she has already achieved a new height of opulence as she is Branson’s most towering addition with twelve glass stories.

J.W. Marriott - Classy Golf Destination - The J.W. Marriott in Summerlin, Las Vegas, offers some of the best in desert golf, and with classic Mediterranean style rooms and suites, your duffing will be upgraded a notch or two. High Sierra Cabin Emcampment — Zephyr Cove operates the largest snowmobile tour operation in the United States. Beginners are welcome, although there are tour options for more experienced riders. A shuttle runs from many of the nearby resorts, but the resort has winterized cabins.

Boston Boutiques - The Kimptons - impton Boutique Hotels with FlairThere is nothing more satisfying than waking up refreshed, to the point of being exhilarated. The Palette of Provence Painted in New England -
Provence is a place both real and imagined and the Home Hill French Inn & Restaurant in Plainfield, New Hampshire easily embraces this idea. A real dream-come-true for owners Victoria and Stephane du Roure, it's a feast for the imagination of their international clientele.

The Berkshires - 24 Hours on Cultural Cloud 9 -
The Berkshires is so chock full of cultural and historic attractions that a few years back the official visitor’s bureau began billing these pastoral hills of western Massachusetts as “ America ’s Premier Cultural Resort.” It’s a moniker that appears to fit. Packed within this roughly 25 x 50 mile rectangular county (bordered by New York, Connecticut, and Vermont) are Tanglewood, summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Jacobs Pillow Dance Festival, Williamstown Theatre, The Berkshire Theatre Festival, Clark Art Institute, and MASS MoCA.

Edwardian Elegance - The Charlotte Inn on Martha's Vineyard -
The tranquility we observe does not happen by chance, but rather by a conscious effort to make the inn a place where guests’ desire for privacy and quietude comes first. In fact, the inn does not accept groups of any sort, nor children under 14, and as such, is not a place for everyone. The typical guest is a well-to-do, discriminating traveler who expects to be accommodated in a place that is an exemplar of elegance, refinement, and romance.

The Wauwinet - Nantucket's Most Intimate Hideaway
The Wauwinet is a Relaise & Chateau located on a strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and Nantucket Bay, tucked in next to a bird sanctuary. It is itself a sanctuary from the often frantic pace of the island's center and is the last commercial property on the road to Great Point Lighthouse and the nature preserve that surrounds it.

Boston's Literary Hotel - Omni Park House -
Founded by Henry D. Parker in 1855, the Omni Parker House (then known as simply The Parker House) has been a Boston resident for over 150 years, and one of the oldest of Boston's elegant inns. and the longest continuously operating hotel in the United States. Rocklands Old Granite Inn —The Rockland ferry terminal is across Main Street from the best place to stay in town — the historic Old Granite Inn, a Colonial Federalist architectural sculpture hewn from tons of St. George, Maine artisan-dressed granite.

Lodge Poles & Adobe - Hotel Santa Fe and Hacienda - A herringbone brick entry adorned with native southwestern bushes, pine trees, vines, and wildflowers. Thick carved pine lodgepoles and smooth, sand-colored adobe walls.

Just about all structures in Santa Fe, New Mexico, have an adobe look and feel, so from the outside, the Hotel Santa Fe was right in style. But it was what's inside that gave us the delightful gift of surprise.

Ready for Landing, the Hilton New York JFK Airport Hotel - JFK International Airport sees the arrival and departures of nearly every flag carrier in the world. The JFK complex is so huge, there are eight different terminals (T1 to T8) for domestic and international flights. JFK, also known as Kennedy Airport, is an ever changing or evolving landscape of services.

Start Spreadin' The News about the Dylan in NYC - the center of the universe. It’s a concrete jungle lined with aisles of towering corporate sky scrapers. It’s a hustle and bustle town where the idea of jaywalking doesn’t seem to exist. A place where people have horns, and will not hesitate to use them. It’s a grid where streets go east and west, and avenues go north and south. Still though, thousands of tourists flutter about, overwhelmed by the breathtaking views, lost in their gigantic maps.

Comfy Beds In NYC's Bedford Hotel — It is an unfortunate fact that the lengths a traveler goes to experience new places often leaves them exhausted and returning to their rooms in search of nothing more than the comforts of home. Fortunately there are some hotels that specialize in just these comforts.

Hot Stones and the Moon People - We arrive at the Salish Lodge & Spa, nestled in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains of the Pacific Northwest, just in time for afternoon tea in the Asahel Curtis Library. With its oak plank floor, overstuffed leather loveseats, games tables, and heap of logs next to the stone hearth, the library is a peaceful respite.

Five landscaped acres bordering the Sammamish River in Western Washington make up the Willows Lodge, a rural and rustic Northwest-style lodge surrounded by woodlands and wineries.

First on First Avenue, Hotel 1000 -
The moment we enter Hotel 1000 we notice quiet—a striking difference from busy First Avenue outside. While checking in we’re offered mint infused tea, served during the summer in the lobby.

Leading Luxury Indicator - The Saxon Hotel Spa and Villas -
There will be no argument from me — as a luxury indicator The Saxon Boutique Hotel, Villas, and Spa in Johannesburg is leading the way to superb suburbian relaxation; the resort has been voted the world's leading boutique hotel every year since 2001, and it is a member of the elite Leading Small Hotels of the World.

Carte Blanche in Capetown at the 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa - If there had been 13 Apostles God would have had to add an additional peak to the World Heritage Site  of Table Mountain in Cape Town, South Africa, and the 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa would have to change its appellation to 13A.

Berber Bargains in Fes, Morocco at Jnan Palace - My bus pulled up to the Jnan Palace, passing through an enormous pishtaq, (vaulted archway) built of blocks with massive wooden doors.  The arches are a ubiquitous motif found in Islam and are found not just in architecture but also in everything from furniture to interior décor to fabric patterns.

Bali's Cinnamon Private Villas - Kayumanis - We were assigned a team of butlers to assist us with any needs during our stay, INyoman (3rd born) Subagia took us down a cobblestone path and within seconds we found ourselves at the grand entrance to our lodging, otherwise known as the Villa Sandat.

Sheraton Senggigi Resort and Spa, Lombok - Our ground floor room had sliding glass doors that opened up to the Indian Ocean breezes.  I eyed the modern furniture and famous Sheraton “Sweet Sleeper” bed.

Plush and Lush at Laguna Resort and Spa -
Entering Nusa Dua you could see right away that it is a master planned resort area.  There are many properties in this area including The Laguna Resort and Spa-Nusa Dua.

Kuta Kool at Harris Hotel, Bali -
This hotel had a different vibe than the other resorts we had stayed at prior to in Bali and Lombok.  The staff  had a young, hip, and casual flair.  The décor of the lobby was minimalist and modern; mostly white with accents of the Harris signature orange.

Luxury Mantra at Sukhothai Bangkok - For the award-winning Sukhothai service begins, not at the hotel, but upon arrival at Thailand’s Suvarnabhumi International airport. As you clear customs a hotel escort greets you warmly with a wai (pronounced “why”) the traditional Thai greeting done by pressing your hands together and bowing slightly. He swoops in to take your luggage and lead you to your car, a Mercedes S320 CDI, one of eighteen identically-equipped limos in the hotel’s luxury fleet staffed by 27 full-time drivers.

Thai Tusker Trek at Anantara Golden Triangle - At dinner with John Roberts, Director of Elephants, we learn how the camp and the Golden Triangle Asian Elephant foundation were formed. Born from a desire to provide safe haven for elephants that are abused or cannot work, and to help protect the last of Thailand’s wild herd.

Thai Zen at Chedi Chiang Mai - Arrival at the Chedi Chiang Mai in the mountains of Thailand, an hour’s flight north of Bangkok, brings about a physical transformation. As one enters the lobby, set in a landscaped courtyard with a large reflecting pool, one feels the travel and big-city pressures dissipate. In the moments between check-in and room set-up, the sense of calm taking hold of your body cannot be ignored.

Unique Inns of Victoria, Canada - Victoria is a place whose name speaks its character, recalling an imperial Britain reminiscent of old fashioned virtues.  Well-ordered towns & gardens populated by ruddy folk whose habits include the vigorous seaside walk followed by a proper afternoon tea with warm scones and jam.

The Pan Pacific Hotels of the Pacific Northwest - Seattle and Vancouver often get billed as two peas in a pod, but anyone curious about urban textures in the Pacific Northwest would do well to visit both.

Chill Out At The Ice Hotel -
“Beautiful.  And frigid”.  That’s the comment left by one guest at Canada’s Ice Hotel on the shores of Lac St.-Joseph, about 20 minutes west of Quebec City.  And it gets its name, not surprisingly, from the fact that nearly everything in the hotel is made of frozen water.  That includes the walls, ceilings, beds, furniture, chandeliers—even the glasses you drink from at the bar.

Superior Rooms, Views and Service at Prince Arthur Hotel and Suites - When in Thunder Bay, Canada, there is no choice where to stay, the historic Prince Arthur Hotel near the Marina and the old train station, central to everything the city has to offer. The only thing the hotel overlooks is the Lake Superior waterfront.

All 93 rooms and suites at the Mayaland Hotel and Bungalows have air-conditioning, ceiling fans, Servibars and satellite color TV.

Fun, Food, Fiesta at Hotel Flamingo - September is off-season in Cozumel. One reason is the heat.  But with the ocean only a few yards away, and shops and hotels well air-conditioned, heat is not a reason to stay away.

Beach Buffed at Coral Princess Cozumel - Dolphins.  They’re everywhere.  Flying over the Coral Princess Resort lobby in a graceful arch.  Skimming the bottom of the pool.  Mosaiced into a small table in Chyrlobyrlos, the lobby bar. Guarding the web site.  Why dolphins? Why not! You are, after all, in a world where dolphins visit.  There is even a national park on Cozumel — Chankanaab — a few miles down the road where you can actually swim with them.

Villablanca - Cozumel's Garden Hotel - Villablanca is on the road about a mile south from San Miguel.  It is just across the road from the sea and not too far from a public swimming beach and the lighthouse.  You notice first the lush tropical hibiscus hedges surrounding the gleaming white walls that front it. There's a huge white shark watching over the reception area. Every time I drove by I murmured a wish to stay there.

Fun Added at Hotel Cozumel and Resort - In the heart of it all, one mile from downtown and three miles from the airport, nestles the Hotel Cozumel and Resort at Carretera Costera Sur Km 1.7, Cozumel , Mexico 77600. Because the Matakauri is so private and exclusive, that you have to drive through the forest to get to their front door.

The Hub - Heritage Christchurch Hotel -
It's a 15-hour flight from San Francisco to New Zealand, so we were really happy that our first stop was the Heritage Christchurch Hotel in the heart of the city. Reception was cheerful, and it was clear that they were used to pampering people who had experienced a little too much jetting and setting.

The mansion, rich in history, was built as a wedding present from owner of the Pennsylvania Railroad, Alessander Cassatt. The mansion once housed the descendents of Benjamin Franklin and the predecessors of the Peace Corps.
