The Cable Car – Nob Hill Restaurant & Bar - MGM Grand

This blend of Captain Morgan’s Spiced Rum, Orange Curacao, fresh Sweet and Sour and simple syrup served up in a Cinnamon and sugar rimmed cocktail glass has quickly become one of Nob Hill’s most popular specialty cocktails.  I created this cocktail in 1996 while working in the Starlight Room atop the historic Sir Francis Drake Hotel in San Francisco.  The hotel is located right on the Nob Hill Cable Car tracks and the catch phrase for the Starlight Room was “Between The Stars and the Cable Cars”. I’ve left San Francisco, but this wonderful tipple lives on. It has found another home here in Las Vegas where it quickly became a favorite of our bar staff and guests at Nob Hill.

Since its inception in 1983, Captain Morgan, has been the top selling spiced rum in the world. It comes to us from the Serralles Distillery in Ponce, Puerto Rico. This rich and sweet and lush rum shines with flavors of nutmeg, coriander, cinnamon, and vanilla.

Curacao is a generic name referring to the island in the Dutch West Indies that produces some of the finest bitter oranges in the Caribbean. The peels were brought to Holland in the 17^th century where the first orange liqueur was created. This brandy-based liqueur is mainly produced in France, Holland, and the United States, from imported peels.

The Cable Car Recipe:

1½ ounce Captain Morgan Spiced Rum
¾ ounce Orange Curacao
½ ounce Fresh Sweet and Sour

In an ice filled mixing glass, add the above ingredients, shake until well blended. Strain into a Martini glass that has a “caramelized rim” of raw sugar and cinnamon. Serve with a garnish of an orange spiral.
