Round The World Passenger/Cargo Service - It was announced that the long-standing Bank Line 120-day round-the-world passenger/cargo service was being ended, followed by the news in August that three of the four ships engaged in this service had been sold for scrap. However, Kevin Griffin, managing director of London-based The Cruise People says “this is not the end of the line for round-the-world passenger travel by cargo ship and we have a wonderful alternative in modern ships that spend more time in ports than the usual container ship.”
Australian Freighter Cruising - Freighter Cruises, a division of the Concierge Travel Group, is now taking bookings for the 2009 & 2010 cruising season. Crystal’s Computer University @ Sea Expands - Crystal Cruises is expanding its Computer University@Sea programming with the new Windows 7 operating system and more options for college credit during the World Cruise. This fall, the line will offer classes based on Microsoft’s Windows 7 on both ships a month before the operating system will be available to the public. Additionally, guests aboard Crystal Serenity’s 2010 World Cruise will be able to earn three transferable college credits for various computer courses, and can learn using two different operating systems, Microsoft and Apple.
Voyages to Antiquity Cruise Line - Voyages to Antiquity, the new destination cruise line formed by industry veteran Gerry Herrod, has issued its first brochure and revealed more details about the operation.

Holland America Hosts Culinary Experts - Holland America Line’s Culinary Arts Center will host more than 60 chefs from around the country this year, making them part of the guest enrichment program. While onboard, the guest chefs and experts offer culinary demonstrations, tastings and hands-on cooking classes to guests, in addition to participating in question-and-answer sessions. In partnership with “Food and Wine” magazine, Holland America has scheduled approximately 60 celebrated chefs and wine experts to sail in 2009.
Go Barging French Wine Appreciation Charters - Go Barging is adding charter wine-tasting cruises on all its barges in France for the 2009 season. Wine expert Brendan Moore will accompany guests on explorations of wine-producing regions, including Burgundy and the South of France.
