SYMPHONIES - PHILHARMONICS

LAS VEGAS PHILHARMONIC -(Click Here)

SAN FRANCISCO SYMPHONY

The San Francisco Symphony Plays Kennedy Center - Las Vegas Entertainment Editor, Robert LaGrone, makes a cultural trip to the National Mall for the playbill featuring works from Bela Bartok, Carl Ruggles, and Richard Strauss.

Old Soul Violinist - Maxim at the San Francisco Symphony - Maxim Vengerov is an unusual mixture of boyish charm and old-world mastery. He opened his concert with Bach's 'Toccata and Fugue in D-Minor', which has been made famous by organ-playing vampires and monsters everywhere.

Handel's Messiah - Performed by the San Francisco Symphony and Choir - Handel wrote Messiah during the years of 1741-45, and performed it first to an indifferent London reception. The piece was revived, however, in 1749, and Handel continued to revise the piece significantly throughout the rest of his life. Read about the San Francisco Symphony and Choir's Yuletide version.

DANCE

L'Allegro - Mark Morris Dance Group Comes Home - Morris is in Boston for the staging of L’Allegro, il Penseroso, ed il Moderato, a feature of the Bank of America Celebrity Series at the Wang Center www.celebrityseries.org

Woman As Art - Art As Woman - La Femme -
There is no better Valentine’s Day gift for a man than a ticket to La Femme, the hot Parisian topless show at the MGM Grand Hotel in Vegas.

SPECIAL PERFORMANCES -

Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Mexico - Performing in Las Vegas, the exquisite sounds fills the Fall air with renditions from Copland's 'el Salon de Mexico' and 'La Coronela', by Silvestre Revueltas

Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project - Few places, especially any as vaguely defined as "The Silk Road," are as steeped in picturesque myth as this collection of ancient trade routes from the Far East to Europe. Dusty trails, smelly camels, dangerous bandits, treacherous mountain passes - it just doesn't get any better than this.

Classical Rising Stars - The Ahn Trio - A trio is perfect for allowing the listener to pick out the individual instruments while also enjoying the ensemble sound. Since tonight's music was written for the Trio, the music was well suited to this way of listening.

Hungary's Bartok Series Plays Vegas - Led by conductor and music director Zoltán Kocsis, the group performed works by Bartók, Mozart, and Dvorák before a full house at UNLV's Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall.

BALLET -

The Shanghai Ballet Performs Coppelia - "Coppélia" is a rare ballet with a comic bent, a witty female lead, and, uh, less-than-heroic male characters. Like the Nutcracker, it is based on a story by E.T.A. Hoffman, and you'll notice the parallels in the dreamy, childlike sense of make-believe it portrays.

In The Land of Snow and Dreams - The Nutcracker is one of the world's most beloved syphonies and ballets. The Las Vegas Philharmonic teams up with the Nevada Ballet Theater to bring heart felt well wishers to everyone.
